Your questions answered by our team
Q & A
Can I insure my UK registered car ?
You can insure your UK registered car here in Spain as long as the documentation is all up to date and in order.
Do I have to have my insurance with the bank because I have a mortgage ?
You do not need to have your insurance with the bank if you have a mortgage .
How do I cancel my insurance with the bank ?
All you need to do is go the bank and cancel the insurance one month before the renewal date.
How do I get the money returned for an insurance policy I don’t want ?
This depends on how you paid for the insurance. If you have paid direct debit you need to go to the bank and ask them to return the payment immediately to your account . If you have paid by card you will need to ask the insurance company to return the payment. It is not legal for anyone to take payment from your card without you giving consent for that to be done.
Who do I contact if I’m not happy about a claim or service from an insurance provider ?
The Insurance Ombudsman is an independent authority, which does not belong to any insurance company and will defend the customer interests against the insurance companies when these have not been fulfilled.
The Spanish Insurance Ombudsman can be contacted by email: email@example.com or by post to Defensor del Cliente (Asegurado),

If you do not agree , please get the police who will draw out the details as they see them for you to take to your insurance.
Do I need a letter in the car to give permission for someone else to be driving my car ?
This is not a legal requirement in Spain.

1- Can we have health cover with pre-existing medical conditions?
Unfortunately most pre-existing medical conditions won`t always be covered and other conditions may be exclude related to these conditions. It can be very difficult to get full private heath cover in Spain if you have serious pre existing medical problems although at Generali we are always willing to look at every case on it´s own merit .
2- Do I have any other cover on my Family protection policy except of course the funeral costs etc?
Yes, the policy can provide you with a free dental check up and clean and also very good discounts for any dental treatment! It also covers health and wellness services, including discounts on treatments like acupuncture, chiropody, optics, audiology, psychology and many more.
3- Are earthquakes covered under my home insurance?
As long as you have a home insurance policy in place and the ratio of the earthquake is above the 4,6 on the chart and there has been various houses around you affected then the consortium which is the government insurance will get an assessor out to check the damages and would be covered under them as it`s a natural disaster.
